Some projects are quick like lightning. Others require deep incubation periods. Living and breathing the work and ideas until it becomes solid. Real. The vision matching the form. This book cover was the latter. After months of working closely with horror mistress author Sezin Koehler, and Tim Dedopulos of Ghostwoods, I’m delighted to unveil the cover of Sezin’s soon-to-be-reissued book, American Monsters.
Sezin, in her own words says, “I am in love with it [the cover], as strange as that may be to be in love with an inanimate object. Or maybe I am in love with seeing my characters “in the flesh”. Either way, this cover (and the artwork to come) is the best thing since sliced bread. It’s the bee’s knees. It’s the most!”
To be able to bring to life someone’s vision is the most gratifying thing I can imagine in being an illustrator and designer. I’m grateful to Sezin for her unwavering faith that I could depict horror scenes (horror!). Just wait until you see the tongue going through a skull, and then you’ll understand. And now I forever have an admiration of hyenas – but that will have to wait until the book comes out! “Like” Sezin’s American Monsters page for updates on a release date.
